The Impact of Marine Tourism on the Income of Local Communities Around Kata Beach in Pariaman City, West Sumatra Province

Abstract

Kata Beach is one of the marine tourism activities in Pariaman City. The existence of marine tourism activities at Kata Beach will have an impact on the surrounding community. The impact arising from a tourism activity is the emergence of direct, indirect, and sustainable economic impacts. The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of marine tourism on the income of the community around Kata Beach. The method used in this study is a survey method with a quantitative approach and uses multiplier effect analysis. The results of the study were obtained as follows: (1) The income of the community around the coast consists of net income and gross income arising from the sale of merchandise, products or services. (2) The impact that occurred after the existence of Kata beach tourism on the economy of the people of Taluk Village, Pariaman City, was a change in the livelihood of the surrounding community due to the emergence of new jobs in the tourism sector and an increase in the income of the surrounding community as a business actor. (3) The value of the dual impact of Kata Beach marine tourism on the community's economy is the value of the local income multiplier keynesian value of 1.89, the value of the type I income multiplier ratio of 1.37 and the value of the type II income multiplier ratio of 1.39. This shows that Kata Beach marine tourism can have an economic impact on the surrounding community, where this has been explained by META (2001) if the multiplier effect value is more or equal to one (≥1), then tourism activities are able to have an economic impact on the tourist area, especially on the income of the surrounding community.
