Abstract

Water is a natural resource that plays a vital role in human life and livelihoods, as well as in advancing public welfare. Therefore, it is a fundamental asset and a key factor in development. The purpose of this study was to determine river water quality and strategies for controlling river water pollution. The method used in this study was observation. Sampling locations were determined using purposive sampling. The results of the study indicate that the water temperature supports the life of aquatic organisms. The water color is generally clear to slightly cloudy. The Total Dissolved Solid value is still considered safe in terms of dissolved solids. The Total Suspended Solid value shows variation between locations, but there is an increase downstream indicating the influence of human activities. The pH value is in neutral conditions. The COD value indicates the presence of dissolved organic matter, but is still in accordance with the quality standards. BOD ranges from 9.6–10.8 mg/L which indicates a fairly high organic load. The analysis results show that E. coli was not detected at all points, Total Coliform parameters were found at all points with variations of T1 = 21/100 ml, T2 = 12/100 ml, T3 = 8/100 ml, and T4 = 16/100 ml. This value indicates the presence of organic matter, although it is still within the tolerable range and does not exceed the quality standards. The water pollution control strategy is focused on real and concrete actions, namely independent management of household waste and market waste by the Maubesi village community, regular and planned management of market waste and planting vegetation along the riverbanks.
