Penyengat Island, a popular tourist destination in the Riau Archipelago, faces increasing waste management challenges due to population growth and tourism. This study aims to understand the dynamics of waste generation on the island, focusing on variations between weekdays and weekends. The methodology used is based on the modified SNI 19-3964-1994, with surveys conducted over a week in four different clusters, including densely populated residential areas and tourist spots. Data collection differentiated waste into organic, inorganic, and hazardous categories to analyze the differences in activities between residents and visitors. The results show a significant increase in waste volume on weekends, particularly plastic waste, reflecting the high consumption of disposable products by tourists. Additionally, there was a decrease in paper waste and an increase in organic waste, indicating a shift from administrative and educational activities to recreational activities and food consumption. The study also found that, despite the construction of facilities like TPS3R, there are shortcomings in the effective implementation of waste management, with waste often not properly sorted and disposal practices not being adhered to.
